Updated 26-04-03 Greetings in the Saviours Name,
All of Brazil is still on holiday, though Easter
has passed, because today is Tiradentes Day, which commemorates the betrayal
and death of one of Brazil´s first fighters for independence form the
Portuguese Throne.Tira:- pull; dentes:- teeth, yes you have guessed it,
Tiradentes was a dentist by profession. He was part of a group of 12 men who
sought to bring about independence for Brazil but was betrayed by someone
of his own group and became the fall-guy for bigger names. Brazilians
love to liken him to Christ, though his objective was not so noble.
March was a very sad month for us as Evelyn's father passed away and Gary
was very ill in hospital. Gary is now well improved but is still
needing to have another operation, when a bed becomes available for
him in the Royal.
Stephen and his wife, Carol are with us until
Wednesday. It is good to see them looking well. It is a pity that the weather
has not been so nice during their short stay.
We, Evelyn and I, will arrive in the U.K. on
May 23rd and we will remain there until June23rd . The reason for our
visit is that I have to attend a UFM leadership conference in Wales starting May
30th. The Mission have been asking when we will have a furlough -home
assignment. At present there does not seem to be any possibility of this being
realised at least for this year.
The Pioneiros had a camp over Easter, this was a
great success, in spite of the not-so-good weather. Pray for more leaders and
Pioneiros. During the first weekend in April we visited Belo Horizonte to participate
in the wedding of Marcia, a great friend of our family since we arrived
in Brazil. Marcia helped us a lot in the early days. While there we
learned of the possibility of having another five or six Pioneiro companies.
We do not know how this would all work out. Eventually we will need someone to
head up this department of our work. Pray that God will send the right person
along.
This Friday we are having a Church meeting to
consider candidates for membership. Pray for God's guidance.
Thank you for your continued prayers and support.
In Christ

17-01-03 Dear David and Friends at Dundonald.
Greetings from Jaraguá do Sul.
It was lovely to see your pictures and to know
that the Lord blessed you through the anniversary services.
Our prayer is that the Church will continue to be a testimony in
Dundonald and that many may come to know Christ through its witness.
Everything is on the move here as we prepare to
receive our new Pastor and his wife next week.
It has been wonderful to see the Lord work and
bring to us Pr. Deny and his wife Juliana. As you will know we were
expecting a visit from Márcio with the possibility of him coming to help in
the work. Just before he was due, everything was cancelled and we
didn't know where to look for anyone else. It was now the end of
November the seminaries were closing for the holidays and the
new graduates had already got churches. We were very disappointed
but the Lord was working out His Perfect plan. Through a friend we were
put in contact with Pr.Deny, and the following week he and his wife came
and visited the church and the church invited them to come and work along with
us.
We have been able to find a house to rent for them
just 700 meters from the Church and just now we are working out details for
there move.
The Church is planning to pay his salary but
we are going to have to get extra support to pay his rent. We are
convinced that the Lord, who has brought them to us, will supply all his
needs.
The plan is that they come next week. Pray that
the house will be ready, [the owner is doing some repairs before they move in]
and that we will be able to get a removal company at a reasonable price to
bring their furniture to Jaraguá. At present they live in a town called
Araçatuba, 800 kilometres from Jaraguá.
Pr.Deny and his wife Juliana have one little boy
Gabriel who is 3 years old and Juliana is expecting another baby in May.
We want to thank each one of you for your
continued support and encouragement in the work.
